Question: I'm staying in the hotel. Do I still need to go to Oberholtzer Hall to check in?

Clara's Response: Nope. You will need to check in to the hotel and grab some dinner. Check out the wiki for dining suggestions. We'll see you at the opening reception in the M.D. Anderson Library Rockwell Pavilion at 7:30.

Question: My flight gets in to Houston after 5pm and I will be unable to make it to the dorm check-in in the Oberholtzer Hall Lobby by 6pm. What should I do?

Clara's Response: Call my cell (number distributed via email) when you arrive at the UH Hilton. We'll send someone over to greet you and store your luggage until after the opening reception. We'll have a late check-in to the dorm between 9:15-9:45 at Oberholtzer Hall.

Question: Will we need a laptop during the Immersion program?

Clara's Response: Laptops are not necessary, but you may want to bring one. We will have a computer lab available for participants during the following days/times:

Sunday: 5:45 p.m. - 10:45 p.m.

Monday: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday: 1:00 p.m. - 10:45 p.m.

Ethernet access is also available in the dorms and wireless access is available in the Library. If you wish to have Ethernet or wireless access for your laptop, you must contact me ASAP.

Question: I didn't contact you to let you know I needed shuttle service by the June 30 deadline. Can I still get shuttle service?

Clara's Response: The shuttle company's deadline to receive our list of participants was July 3. However, the Texans shuttle may be able to accomodate you to the University of Houston. If you wish to make a reservation with the Texans shuttle company, please call 713-781-6660. The other option for getting from the airport to campus is to take a taxi. Taxi service to the University of Houston will be approximately $45-$55.

Question: Since I am staying off-campus, when should I show up Friday, July 14?

Clara's Response: Please come to the opening reception on Friday, July 14, at 7:30. We will have your registration materials at that time.

Question: I’ll be driving to immersion but staying at the Hilton, do I need to sign up for economy $2 parking or is there a different parking for the hotel?

Clara's Response: The Hilton has parking available for guests in their underground garage. I recommend parking there if you are a guest of the Hilton.

Question: how will we know which one is the right one to take us to the campus? Or are these just reservations we made and we will need to tell the driver the University of Houston and the dorm name?

Clara's Response: The Texans Shuttle reservation counter will have your name. Let them know you are going to the University of Houston Hilton. We will meet you at the Hilton and give you directions to the dorm as well as transport your luggage with our golf cart.

Question: I’m planning to arrive on Friday around 3:00 or 4:00 and I’ll be staying at the Hilton. Once I arrive, what would my best plan of action be? Will I need to drive to Oberholtzer or can I (should I) walk?

Clara's Response: Just park at the Hilton and check into your hotel room. You may want to stop by the Information Desk in the M.D. Anderson Library and pick up a flyer regarding local information. We'll be offering a 'behind the scenes tour' of the library at 4pm. You'll need to find dinner prior to the opening reception which starts are 7:30pm. No need to go to Oberholtzer Hall since you are staying in the Hilton.
